September at EPIC: Farmyard Discoveries, New Friends & Creative Play

The EPIC Edition | September 2026

Little adventures, big discoveries — a look back at nursery life this September.

A warm welcome to the EPIC family

Welcome to our very first EPIC newsletter!

We've welcomed many new friends to the nursery over the past few weeks, and we hope all our families are continuing to feel the gift of being part of the EPIC family as much as we do.

Meet Emi, our new Support Assistant

We're also delighted to introduce Emi, our new Support Assistant, who is joining us from mid-October.

Emi will be with us every Wednesday and Thursday. Please give her a warm EPIC welcome when you see her!

Our farmyard adventure

This month, the children have been exploring farms and discovering where some of the things we use and eat come from.

A visit to the Museum of Rural Life sparked wonderful conversations about tractors, diggers and combine harvesters, the animals the children met, and the crops grown on farms.

Together, we explored what different farm vehicles do and followed the journey of food from the fields to our plates.

Making, painting and working together

Back at nursery, our farm theme inspired plenty of hands-on creativity.

The children made farm vehicles through junk modelling, built houses for animals, created crop collages and painted with coffee beans.

As they shared ideas, worked together and solved problems, they strengthened friendships alongside their cutting, gluing, peeling and painting skills.

Counting, matching and sensory play

A tractor-matching game gave everyone chances to take turns, recognise colours and spot similarities and differences.

We also followed popcorn's journey from harvest to popping, practising counting and using tongs to transfer food.

In our sensory room, the children enjoyed digging to uncover crops and imaginative tea-making.

Outdoor farmyard fun

Outside, the children became combine harvesters in their imaginative play, rolling and bundling hay into bales.

They sorted farm animals into their habitats and explored why pigs love muddy pigsties.

Using oats and wheat, they played at preparing breakfast and learned how crops become familiar foods such as porridge and Weetabix.

Sensory farm trays added even more opportunities to create stories with animals and vehicles.

Every child has purpose.

Thank you for being part of our EPIC family and sharing in all these little moments of learning and joy.
